Philosophy of Education

It is my belief that the role of a teacher is multidimensional.  Teachers are first educators but they are also role models, doctors, counselors, problem solvers, mediators, and the list goes on.  I feel that the purpose of education is to educate children to become independent thinkers.  It is important for children to be able to make decisions on their own that will influence their lives.  A classroom should be like a sanctuary where students can explore new ideas and concepts without fear of embarrassment, rejection, or criticism.  Students should be active learners using discovery and cooperative learning.  Students should be the focus of education with the teacher roles, teaching strategies, and classroom management centered around what is best for the students’ learning and achievement.  It is the responsibility of the teacher to create an environment where students can feel comfortable and where activities guide student learning.
